Environmental & Social Sustainability

At Custom Millcraft we are committed to sustainability by caring for our planet and the community we live and operate in through mutually beneficial business practices.

We comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and other policy mechanisms concerning environmental issues. The prevention of adverse effects to the environment and the reduction of our waste streams including air pollution, water pollution, solid waste management, and protection of natural resources is of primary importance.

Sustainability in action

We maintain an Environmental Compliance Program built on industry best practices. Our program encourages input and cooperation from our Management, Employees, Vendors, and Customers to reduce our environmental footprint. Our goal is to prevent and/or reduce any adverse effects on our environment through training and continual improvement to become the best in our industry.

Vendor traceability and accountability

Sustainable products

Every part of the supply chain contributes to carbon emissions. All our products are custom made to our customers specifications. If requested, Custom Millcraft contracts with International EPD® System for an Environmental Product Declaration to determine the full carbon emissions impact of each product.

  • We require Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification of all our wood vendors to verify chain of custody and sustainable harvesting.
  • We use NAUF MDF (No Added Urea Formaldehyde Medium Density Fiberboard) board in fabrication to lower formaldehyde emissions. 80% of the particleboard and MDF used in our cabinet manufacturing contains 100% recycled or recovered fiber content.
  • All our inventoried finishing materials are water based.
  • We prioritize transportation vendors with environmentally sustainable operating programs that focus on cleaner energy.

reduce, reuse, recycle

REDUCE: Our project managers are skilled and knowledgeable at recommending cost-saving and environmentally sustainable materials.

REUSE: All outgoing products are blanket wrapped to further reduce waste.

RECYCLE: We focus on waste reduction with a robust recycling program which includes the recycling of finishing products through the Superior Oil Company, Reclaimed Energy Division. We recycle all packaging materials, skidding and crating that are used with incoming materials and supplies. We partner with Smash My Trash and are on target to reach our goal of reducing landfill waste by 70% in 2021 and decrease carbon emissions by fewer trips to the landfill.  All metal waste is recycled.

Employee Training

sustainability: jobs & community.jpg

We are very proud of the impact our training program has had in not just the local community but in bringing diverse candidates into the skilled trades. We hire employees with no experience and provide one-on-one dedicated training that focuses on an employee’s strengths and interests. This not only provides them increased pay and upward mobility within our company but provides them with well-paid, marketable skills that benefits them and our community. We believe in leaving people in a better place than when they found us.

Our training efforts are not just vital to our business but the future of our industry where it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find skilled workers.

Supplier Diversity

Custom Millcraft is active in our regional Women’s Business Enterprise Council Ohio River Valley (WBECORV) and participates in local business groups to identify WBEs, MBEs, and Veterans to support purchases and collaborations.
